Special Agent Rainie McClain wants out. Out of The Agency. Out of the shadow life that has consumed her for far too long. Walking away from The Agency means letting go of the only man she’s ever loved, her husband, Captain Roc Branson. But at thirty-eight, Rainie has seen all the violence and death she can handle. And after discovering she’s pregnant, she just wants a normal life. But what can be normal about the reappearance of a long lost brother who may or may not be a sadistic killer, the heartrending demise of her marriage, and the web of lies that grows until she no longer knows who to trust? It’s vital that she discover the truth soon…because what she doesn’t know, just might kill her.

Excerpt:

I waited until after midnight before leaving. Margaret told me she kept the Jeep she’d used during her high school years because it was where she’d lost her virginity, although she rarely drove it anymore. I found the keys above the visor and managed to get the engine to turn over after several cranks.

I parked in the neighboring apartment complex and waited. When nothing out of the ordinary appeared to be taking place, I skirted around the side of the complex and ended up at the back of my building.

Within minutes, I’d slipped in and quietly unlocked my door.

I stood for a second, listening to the familiar sounds of my apartment. Nothing appeared out of order but I didn’t dare turn on any lights.

I felt my way to the bedroom and stepped inside when instinctively, I knew I was no longer alone.

“Who’s there?” My breath lodged against my throat. I couldn’t breathe. My eyes searched the surrounding darkness and spotted a shadowy figure close by. I tried to run for the front door but a strong arm circled my waist, pulling me back as another hand clamped over my mouth, silencing my scream.

Then he whispered against my ear. “Don’t scream.”

Roc!

He was so close and yet I couldn’t let myself believe this wasn’t just some twisted dream.

Read more about the book:

Had Lila Taylor Known the fate waiting her outside her door that morning, she would have pulled the covers back over her head, dismissed the cat’s complaining entirely, and ignored the flood on the first floor. But you see, Lila wasn’t expecting anything life changing to happen to her. Why you might ask? Because nothing exciting ever happens in Endsville, Texas!

Or so Lila thought, until the day Grayson Stone walked into her otherwise boring little world and turned reality into one very exciting fantasy.

Two great reviews for Almost Home!

4 1/2 hearts from Brenda Talley at TRS –

Ms. Mary Eason presented this poignant story about a couple who still loved each other. They hadn’t seen or talked to each other in a year. Both had pretty-much started pulling themselves up from the bottom. Eason has shown a depth of characters which enables her readers to get involved with the entire plot and become part of the book. There were myriad of supporting cast which enhanced the initial couple. No one, however, could push them into admitting to their secrets which ultimately kept them apart.

Eason did a good job of dealing with alcoholism and the affects it has on entire families. The problems associated with misconceptions, as well as secrets, continued to grip this reader. There was an underlying need of commitment to the faith they had previously known. It was handled very well and did a great job of working through their situations.

I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a heart-rending plot with a happily-ever-after that was unexpected. This book will stay with me long after I’ve completed it. I shall look forward to more by this author.

And from Rosemary at Long and Short Reviews –

With Almost Home, Mary Eason delivers many beautiful and subtle messages that are easily forgotten in busy day to day life. Davis and Kellie are truly delightful characters whose personal growth and maturity provide a strong foundation as they rebuild their marriage. While their romance is often bittersweet, it is also incredibly moving and often tugs at the heartstrings. If you are looking for a sweet inspirational romance, you should not miss this poignant story.

Kellie Masterson is almost home. But will she find the love she longs for or the broken past she left behind.

Less than a year earlier, Kellie Masterson’s life was perfect. Then she discovered the ugly truth. Her marriage to Davis Jackson had been built on a myth. When Kellie prayed without seemingly having answers, the only thing left for her to do was put distance between herself and Davis.

Now, with nowhere else to turn, Kellie returns to Jackson, Texas only to discover, Davis hasn’t moved with his life as she suspected. And he never signed the divorce papers she believed he couldn’t wait to get. On top of all this, Davis doesn’t seem the same person he was before. The rough edges of his personality are gone.

Soon, Kellie learns that Davis had a fateful car accident six months earlier that made him question everything about himself and his drinking. Coming close to death changed him. But Kellie isn’t ready to trust him completely just yet. She needs time. She moves into her grandmother’s old house close by and finds a job. Soon she and Davis are attending the same church they were married in together. They’re becoming friends again. But Kellie doesn’t know how to tell him she has secrets of her own.
